Four days ago, at Howard University, John Edwards was speaking about his plans to stop global warming. When it came time for questions, a good friend of ours named Courtney Fryxell, stood up and asked Edwards one simple question, "I ask you, sir, if you will come out today and publicly commit to 80% by 2050." Edwards' response? A firm, "Yes!"
This is an incredible step in the right direction and bodes well for our upcoming day of action on April 14. Politicians are finally getting the message that voters want a change of direction on global warming and won't settle for less than a strong, bold commitment. But we've already learned that politicians won't commit unless we demand them to. We're hoping that on April 14, hundreds of individuals will step up, just like Courtney, and ask their representative the same question, "Will you publicly commit to 80% by 2050?"
Make sure to invite your representative to your Step It Up action! Click here for some helpful tips on how to do it.
In the meantime, you can watch a video (a little blurry) of Edwards' statement and get excited - with your help, we'll be hearing many more commitments in just a few short weeks.
Well we are having a very well-organized and large rally here in his home town of Raleigh, NC zip 27613. Can we get a commitment from him to speak at our event?
